Introduction
Osoyoos is famous for lying within Canada’s only true desert, but it is our Main Street that leaves a lasting impression and inspires travellers to stop and take notice of our small community.

A 1.5km stretch of Hwy 3, Main Street was paved in 1948 after the town’s water system was put in place, and is wider than most other small communities’s main thoroughfares. Town founders disagreed with the provincial government and insisted on a “grand scale street” that looked towards beautiful Osoyoos Lake. Today, locals and visitors alike appreciate their persistence while experiencing many main street events including a regular farmers’ market, Cactus Jalopies car show, Trick or Treat Main Street, Christmas Light up and Santa Parade, and the ever popular Cherry Fiesta celebrated on Canada Day, which includes a parade and fireworks attended by more than 8000 people.

Development

Main Street Osoyoos is home to many local businesses providing a variety of shopping, beauty and dining options, as well as tourist attractions like the Osoyoos Museum and the Osoyoos Art Gallery.

You can’t visit Osoyoos without a wander through the Home Hardware…the best one anywhere. It’s always full of happy locals, visitors and staff, as well as an amazing assortment of goods! I never miss a chance when I’m in town.

  2. Best street ever. Moving here from Canmore/Banff Alberta……………..the main street in Osoyoos kept me coming back. Now I live here for the past 7 years and will be living here until the end.
Travelled the world, but this is the best place to be.

Great shops with the friendliest of people to greet you, nice pubs and restaurants well known for their quality food, wonderful Easter Parade, absolutely fabulous Cherry Fiesta/ Canada Day Parade with the best fireworks, possibly in BC in the evening and the Santa Claus arrival/ Christmas parade just to name a few things happening on main st. We moved here 11 years ago and our vote is for our beautiful Osoyoos!!!

Great little town. If we could sell our house today, we would move tomorrow to Osoyoos. That town is the greatest, the people are the greatest and the stores are great. Really like the entire area.

Osoyoos, nestled between the lake and mountains, offers year-round beauty – a lake of the bluest blue in summer and a snow scape of serene white in winter. And, when returning home through the mountains at night, nothing in the world catches my breath like my first sighting of the town lights sparkling down in the valley regardless of season.

Returned to Osoyoos 8 yrs. ago after living 25 yrs. near Seattle. This is truly home. Great climate and WONDERFUL PEOPLE. Everyone says hello when we meet. Store owners and staff in town ALWAYS go above and beyond to help people out. Agree with Anna Ellis that MAIN STREET is the HUB of Osoyoos AND HOME HARDWARE is where the FUN BEGINS. If you can’t find what you need,or want, in this main street business, someone there will know where to find it and will direct you where you need to go.
Along this main street you will see BEAUTIFUL hanging flower baskets and some large flower containers throughout the summer season. Mountains frame this Okanagan town that also can boast having the warmest lake in all of Canada and a small town that offers Canada’s Warmest Welcome.

  22. Aw, this was a seriously good post. In notion I’d like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a really great article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no indicates seem to get some thing completed.

Best place on earth, but don’t tell anyone or we will be over run! If you want the best coffee’s EVER, stop at Jo-Jo’s and while there have a sandwich. Home Hardware will never be outdone. Should be called “Spend the whole day and find things you didn’t know existed”. Thanks Francis, Larry and kids for making out town famous for something other than the wonderful lake, beautiful mountains, great wines and of course the desert!

  24. Annette Star

I started to coming to Osoyoos in 1966 on holidays with my parents – we always stayed right on the lake at a hotel for a month every year (now the Coast Hotel). When I had children we came camping here and loved it. Actually loved it so much that 14 years ago made the big move from Calgary, Alberta to Osoyoos and have not looked back since. It is the best town in the world – friendly people, great weather, beautiful lake, and skiing in the winter 45 minutes away. The events that take place here are so well done and so many – this is truly an amazing place to visit and even better to live here. Our main street is filled with wonderful shops – and yes the infamous Home Hardware! Francis always has everything you need and stuff you never knew existed or needed! Vote for Osoyoos as it is the best!
